With their eggnog toasting and Christmas caroling, holiday parties can be the best.

Unfortunately, they can also be stressful. This is especially true when you’re asked to bring dessert. The recipe picking and actual baking aren’t quite so difficult. But when it comes to the party taking, you can face some serious dilemmas.

Paper plates look cheap and never quite hold up. Your fancy china probably doesn’t leave the house. If you use your everyday dishware, you’ll either have to return to reclaim your plate or wait until the very end of the party.

Luckily, our copywriter has a solution – thrift store finds!

Before a big party, she pops into her local thrift store for a used treasure. (Typically she spends less than $1!) The plate’s inexpensive enough that leaving it behind doesn’t break the bank. Additionally, if you score an adorable find it can be a hostess gift.

Take for example this fantastic Christmas plate Mikaela used last weekend. She made a Pumpkin Buttermilk Cake with Cream Cheese Butter Frosting. (It was delightful. You can see the recipe here.) And, she took it on this great plate with some disposable plates and silverware. Talk about easy!

Mikaela Also Recommends: Don’t be afraid to bargain hunt throughout the year. Having a few cute plates on hand saves a trip when you’re prepping for a party.
